Bloomberg Technoz, Bali - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) officially opened the 10th World Water Forum in Nusa Dua, Bali. In his opening speech, Jokowi talked about water management in Indonesia. Including the traditional Balinese irrigation concept, Subak.

"As a country with approximately 65% of its water area, Indonesia is rich in some local ways in water management.

"Our people have a cultural value towards water, one of which is the Subak irrigation system in Bali," said Jokowi at the Bali International Convention Center, Monday (20/5/2024).

Jokowi emphasized that in terms of water management in the world, there must be at least three things that are in the spotlight. The President explained that the first thing should be in a water management is to avoid competition.

"Then prioritize equality and carry out inclusive cooperation and support mutual peace," he stressed.

"The key is collaboration," added Jokowi in front of the entire delegations.

Jokowi hopes that the world can continue to join hands on an ongoing basis, especially in water management.

Towards the end of his opening speech, Jokowi introduced the elected President of Indonesia for 2024-2029, Prabowo Subianto. Jokowi also gave a special message to Prabowo to continue good relations with other countries specifically in water management.

“In October, my term as President will end. "Allow me to introduce the President-elect of Indonesia, Mr. Prabowo Subianto, who will continue to manage sustainable this water management," said Jokowi.

“Water is the source of life. If it cannot be managed properly it could become a source of disaster. "By saying Bismillahirrahmanirrahim, I am now officially opened the 10th world water forum," concluded Jokowi.

Elon Musk Believes Water Problems Can Be Solved.

On the same occasion, before Jokowi gave his speech, Tesla CEO and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk was the keynote speaker. He said that if alien creatures came to Earth, they would call this planet water.

Elon said this planet is called Earth, but basically it is dominated by 70% of water.

"So, technically, if aliens come here, and many people think aliens have already come here, because they always ask me about aliens. They (aliens) will call this planet water, because we are 70% water and only 30% of the land," said Elon.

With the Earth being dominated by water, Elon believes that the world's water problem can be solved because there is so much water in the world.

One of which is by desalination or changing sea water into fresh water and the process of transporting this water.

"But desalination as I think most people know is now very cheap, so,  the availability of the clean water is really just a matter of energy and transportation," he said.

"So, when I talk to people who love reading and very intelligent people in the United States, they often think, the water crisis is insoluble, but the reality is that this crisis is very solvable," added Elon.
